MEDITERRANEAN DIET EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD
MEDITERRANEAN DIET EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD
“Mediterranean Diet: An Example to the World” is a poetic journey narrated through the eyes and words of an old sage who, after wandering the world and witnessing humanity marred by hunger and poverty, returns to his homeland, Cilento, in Italy. Here, with his wisdom, he introduces us to the birthplace of the Mediterranean diet, a lifestyle declared on November 16, 2010, in Nairobi by UNESCO as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity." We discover a land abundant in productive wealth, natural biodiversity, cultural and agri-food richness, a place that holds the secret to longevity, highly appreciated by the greatest nutritionist of the 20th century, Ancel Keys, who moved here to "extend his life by twenty years." As defined by him, the Mediterranean diet is much more than a nutritional regimen. It's a model of seasonality, typicity, and biodiversity, representing the relationship between people and territory. As an old proverb says, "If a man is hungry, do not give him a fish but teach him to fish," the old sage, after guiding us through enchanting places, decides with nostalgia to set off again to bring this wealth to all the poor people of the world: the lifestyle of the Mediterranean diet.
